It's Book Hooks Wednesday! Today I'm offering an excerpt from THERE GOES THE GROOM - Up In The Air. Tony tries to rescue Samson the cat, his neighbour Mrs. Finley's beloved pet. Samson climbs up into a tree and refuses to come down, and Tony goes up after him. Eventually, the cat comes down the tree on his own, but now Tony is the one who needs rescuing. Enjoy the excerpt!

Excerpt:
“I seem to be stuck.”
“What do you mean, stuck?”
She heard the exasperation in his voice. “It’s dark and I can’t see my way down. I’m too scared, okay? I’m a big wuss. Are you happy?”
Actually, she was. The big, brave archaeologist was afraid of heights. It gave Olivia a perverse sort of pleasure to see Tony in an embarrassing situation. His plight tickled her funny bone, and in spite of everything she started to laugh.
“I can hear that, Liv,” he called. “Nice. Real nice.”
“I’m sorry,” she said as she wiped away tears of laughter. “What do you want me to do?”
“Stop laughing for a start.”
“Serves you right for acting like a big macho man.”
“I wanted to get the damn cat out of the tree for Mrs. Finley. She loves that furry beast.”
Olivia sobered. He had managed to retrieve Samson. She decided to cut him a little slack.
“Do you want me to call the fire department and have them send a ladder crew to help you down?”
Tony groaned. “Only as a last resort. I’d like to keep my public humiliation down to a minimum, if you don’t mind.”
“Got any other suggestions?”
“You wouldn’t happen to have a ten-foot ladder on you, would you?”
“No, sorry, I’m fresh out. But I bet the condo caretaker has one. I’ll go get him.”
“Bring a flashlight too, and hurry. My leg is starting to go numb.”
She hurried to the caretaker’s condo. Jean-Guy’s job description included tasks such as
mowing the grass and shovelling the snow, but he didn’t blink an eyelash at being asked to retrieve a grown man from a tree.
“That Samson, he likes to climb trees, non? Your friend is not as good a climber as Samson?”
“Non,” Olivia replied. “He’s not a very good climber. And no, he’s not my friend. He…”
What was Tony exactly? Her ex-lover, her ex-fiancé, her ex-boyfriend. Ex, ex, ex. How precisely did she describe their relationship in the here and now to Jean-Guy and others? How did she describe it to herself?
“…lives next door.”

Blurb:
Eight years ago, Tony bailed on Olivia at the altar. In the days leading up to the wedding, she was silent and distant, and though she claimed everything was fine, Tony concluded she no longer wanted to marry him. So, he gave her an easy way out and took the fall.
Now he’s back in town, and they’re forced to work together. Sparks fly, but Olivia’s not sure she can trust him. Besides, she’s engaged to someone else, and even if her heart only flutters for Tony, she’s not about to humiliate her nice, “safe” fiancé like she was humiliated.
Can Tony and Olivia work through the past, or will she walk down the aisle with her safe bet? This time, will Tony end up alone at the altar?

Curioser & curioser. Does Jean-Guy have other roles to play with these two?
Me too. Definitely don't do well with heights!
Aww, he sounds like a great guy--rescuing the neighbour's cat. And I adore the predicament he's in now.
You've got to love a guy who risks life and limb to rescue a cat.
Hi,
I sure hope Olivia tells him that she's still in love with him. They really need to talks things out.
Just a suggestion: check your pacing. In this section, I found the pacing too slow.
