Guest Blog: Debut Author A.A. DaSilva - PERIPHERY

Today's guest is debut author A.A. DaSilva. Her first book, PERIPHERY, released November 20, 2024 by The Wild Rose Press, is described as speculative romance and light science fiction. The book asks an interesting question: Does decision or fate determine our destiny? PERIPHERY is book one in the Periphery series, with book 2, THE BLEED-THROUGH EFFECT, coming in 2025.

Periphery by A.A. DaSilva. Silhouettes of a man and woman holding hands in a night sky.

Blurb:

Charlotte barely survived the accident that killed her husband four years ago. Resuscitated a savant, she struggles to find meaning in her survival. When she meets Simon, a mysteriously familiar stranger, they are drawn to each other with undeniable magnetism. But Simon is contracted to a black-ops agency. With the agency on her heels, and Simon claiming her heart, Charlotte’s past and future collide when she's offered a chance to reconnect with her late husband. As secrets are revealed, motives uncovered, and alliances are formed, Charlotte must choose…between the fate of the world and the fate of her heart.

Excerpt:

I immediately thought of the scar across his back, and the small silver scar above his ear and through his eyebrow. I tried to picture Sy lying in a hospital bed, broken, but the image was impossible to find in the presence of his strong, capable body and calm manner.

“What happened?”

“Our helicopter was taken down just outside base. The pilot died at the scene along with

another one of our men. They were our friends, damn good soldiers, and just like that, they were dead, taken out by terrorists that’d ambushed us. Jeff was with me, and he’s the reason I’m alive. He dragged me from the ruins to safety. I ended up dying for a few minutes before I was resuscitated. I was in a coma for a while.”

Wow. Figures we’d happen to have the most unlikely thing in common— surviving death.

“Oh, my God. I’m so sorry.” I reached out and touched his arm.

I’d initially found it odd, Jeff panicking over a surface wound the day he’d called me over to

help Sy. I’d wondered if there was an ulterior motive. But now I better understood the bond

between him and Jeff. The protectiveness Sy felt in the bar that night for his brother who’d saved his life, and the minor injury he’d sustained the other day that caused Jeff to panic.

He turned to face me, and his gaze went from my eyes down to my lips. “I believe everything, no matter how painful or tragic, happens for a reason. Whether we like it or not, we have to go out and find our own healing, our own happiness, down whatever path the universe opens for us.”

I nodded, his statement resonating deeply with my own tragic story. “So, what’d you do?”

He looked away and shrugged. “I was honorably discharged after that, and Jeff’s now in the

reserves.” He laughed. “Now I’m stuck working with him and nearly cutting my arm off in the

process because he’s a slob, and forgets to throw away old blades.”

He lifted his arm, now un-bandaged and scabbed over, a far cry from the angry wound I’d

cared for last week.

“Wow, Sy. You’re lucky to be alive.”

“I don’t believe in luck.”

“What do you believe in, then?”

“Destiny.” He winked at me and smiled.

This time, it was my gaze that dropped to his lips as he spoke. I took a deep breath, then

looked up at him.

He leaned toward me, and I grasped the door handle. “Thanks for today.” I quickly opened

the door and nearly stumbled out of the car.

He leaned back into his seat and chuckled. “Anytime, Charlotte.”

After he left, I showered and put on my pajamas. I snuggled into bed deliciously sore from

the run. I hugged the covers tight around my body, and fell into a deep dreamless sleep, the type of sleep that had eluded me for the past several years.
