#MFRWhooks Blog Hop - An Excerpt from I'LL BE SEEING YOU - Replaying the Past

A Happy Wednesday to you! Today I have an excerpt from I'LL BE SEEING YOU, book 1 in my Twice in a Lifetime time-travel romance series. In this scene senior angel Thomas forces Gabriel to look back at his life and confront the mistakes he made, especially when it came to women.

Red roses with a pearl necklace. Text "Book Hooks" and "Marketing for Romance Writers" in white. Romantic and elegant mood.

Excerpt:

"I think it’s time to show you your relationship with Sloane, right from the beginning.”

“What? Wait a minute. I didn’t sign up for that.”

“Maybe you should have read the fine print more carefully. To get into Heaven you must confront your mistakes and learn from them. When it comes to Sloane, you messed up plenty. Shall we look?”

“No, I don’t want to—”

A howling wind picked him up and carried him away. Gabriel was disoriented and helpless. All he could do was to hang on and try to ride the wave.

The next thing he knew, he was in his office in downtown Toronto, the prized corner office on the twenty-fifth floor he’d worked so hard to obtain. Gabriel watched his mortal self from above as he and Thomas hovered overhead, close to the ceiling. He felt disconnected from this person pounding a message on his computer. It was as if he was watching a stranger rather than himself. Yet he could feel every emotion of the other Gabriel.

This other Gabriel picked up his ringing cell phone, his mouth twisting in annoyance when he saw the name on the screen. He jabbed a button on the phone. “Hello, Jenna. Look, I’m sorry, but it’s best if we don’t see each other or speak on the phone again. Our relationship has run its course.”

His voice was impatient, brusque. Gabriel winced as he listened to himself. Had he really been that abrupt? He sounded unkind and uncaring, but it couldn’t be helped. He usually lost interest in a woman after a few weeks, sometimes after only a couple of dates. Once the relationship was over for him, he saw no point in prolonging the inevitable. Better to end it quickly and cleanly and move on.

And best to end one affair before beginning another. He never cheated. Ever. Gabriel believed in his own version of monogamy—one woman at a time, but one woman after another. He may have been a bastard with women, but at least he was an honest bastard.

“I’m sorry you feel that way, Jenna. I wish you the best of luck. Truly.” He ended the call and blew out a breath as he leaned back against his leather office chair.

The respite didn’t last long. His office phone rang almost immediately. His other self picked it up and barked out a terse ‘Send her in’.

Gabriel realized with a start that this was the moment. The moment that changed his life.

Sloane walked into his office. Pulses quickened for both Gabriel-at-the-desk and Gabriel-on-the-ceiling.

Book cover with blue castle, angel wings, and dancing crowd. Text: "I'll Be Seeing You" and "TWICE IN A LIFETIME SERIES BOOK 1."

When apprentice angel Gabriel takes Frank back in time for a second chance at love, they both learn lessons about trust.

Blurb:

Apprentice angel Gabriel Daniel’s first assignment in his quest to become a full-fledged angel is to give WW2 veteran, Frank Brennan, a second chance at love. With help from his mentor, senior angel Thomas, Gabriel takes Frank back to 1944 to Plymouth, England. There, Frank made his biggest mistake with love. He fell in love with Claire Cartwright, but when he found her kissing another man, he ended their relationship, despite Claire’s insistence that things weren’t as they appeared. This time around, Gabriel’s task is to convince Frank to trust in Claire’s love and fidelity, despite the evidence against her.

At the same time, Thomas takes Gabriel on a journey through his relationship with Sloane, the love of his mortal life. For the first time, Gabriel sees how his jealousy and distrust tainted their love.

Unless Gabriel persuades Frank to trust Claire, his goal of becoming a citizen of Heaven is doomed, along with his desire to watch over his mother and brother back on Earth. Frank has a complicated history that Gabriel must help him confront before either of them gets what they need.

That would be so uncomfortable to have to experience all the moments you regretted for your whole life. I can really feel what Gabriel is going through here, great job!
