Excerpt:
The bride and her parents reached the altar and after giving their daughter a hug, they took their seats. The bride and groom then faced each other, and the minister began the ceremony.
“Dearly beloved. We are gathered here today—”
“Wait! Stop, please.”
The groom took a step away from the bride. “I’m sorry. I can’t do this. I thought I could, thought I wanted to, but I can’t. I’m so sorry.”
The bride reached out to touch him. “Sam?”
The groom evaded her touch. “I’m so sorry. I can’t.”
With that, he hurried down the aisle and out of the church. The congregation sat in stunned silence as the bride and the rest of the wedding party stared after him. When the heavy doors clanged shut behind the departing groom, it woke everyone up. Voices rose in disbelief and anger. The bride’s father started after him, his fists clenched, but the bride’s mother stopped him and led him back to his seat. At the front of the church, the blonde bridesmaid began arguing with one of the groomsmen, while the bride and bridesmaid number two continued to stare down the aisle. The bride’s bouquet slipped out of her hand and fluttered silently to the floor.
Come on. We have to catch up with him, Thomas said.
With who? The groom?
Yes. His name is Sam Jensen and he’s twenty-two years old. He’s your third and final assignment.
Gabriel gritted his teeth in determination. The sooner he completed his assignment with Sam, the sooner he’d get into Heaven. Okay, let’s go.
They left the church through an open side door and flew above the pavement, avoiding traffic lights and low hanging tree branches. Finally, they spotted Sam racing down the sidewalk in his tuxedo. It struck Gabriel as absurdly ironic that they were both dressed in tuxedos, each of them stuck wearing the garment because they’d been running away.
Thomas broke into his thoughts. Except Sam ran away from a woman who wanted to marry him. You ran away after Sloane broke up with you.
Yes, thank you very much for reminding me of the worst day of my life.
Thomas’ lips quirked. That’s why I’m here.
A city bus came to a halt at the next stop. Sam raised his hand to get the driver’s attention and then sprinted toward it.
Come on, Thomas said. Hurry!
They entered the open door right behind Sam. He paid the fare and walked to the back of the bus. After dropping into a seat, Sam leaned forward, put his head in his hands and groaned.
“What the hell have I done?”
He already regrets leaving his bride at the altar, Gabriel said.
Does he? Thomas asked.
Of course he does. Gabriel gestured to Sam. Look at him. It shouldn’t be hard to get him to go back in time to fix his mistake. Maybe he got cold feet. All he needs to do is to go back in time, get through the wedding ceremony and everything will be fine.
Thomas lifted his eyebrows. Will it?
Gabriel’s heart sank. When Thomas asked rhetorical questions, it usually meant there was far more to the story than appeared on the surface.

Blurb, WHEN I WAS YOUR MAN:
Apprentice angel Gabriel Daniels faces his most difficult challenge. He must convince his third and final client, Sam Jensen, to go back ten years in time for his second chance at love. If Gabriel completes this mission successfully, he will gain entry to Heaven and earn the privilege of watching over the people he loves back on Earth.
Except it’s not clear who Sam was truly in love with ten years ago. Going back may hurt people Sam cares about and end relationships. And it may have surprising results for Gabriel as well.
While Gabriel shows Sam how his resentment toward his adoptive family was misplaced, senior angel Thomas illustrates to Gabriel that his resentment toward his absent father colored every aspect of his life. Including missing out on a relationship with his half-sister.
Gabriel must determine who the love of Sam’s life truly is and help him get a second chance with her. Even if it means sacrificing his own chance for a happy afterlife.

You do put your characters through the wringer, Jana!
You hear about runaway brides. Interesting to have a runaway groom. If his heart isn't in it, now is the time to do something - not after he's married. I like the way this story is going.
Does he really regret leaving his bride at the altar? I'm dying to know.
He's got a good reason, but he handled the situation poorly. Gabriel gives him the opportunity to do things right the second time around.
Oh, that poor bride. And Sam. I wonder who he's truly in love with.
