Happy Wednesday! Today I present Not a Complete Jerk After All - Excerpt from HER BEST MAN, book one in the Left at the Altar romantic comedy series. Sarah has some preconceived ideas about Will, suggested to her by Will's brother Brad, her former fiance. But she learns that maybe those ideas weren't completely accurate:

Excerpt:
"Brad told me about your colorful past with women. He said you've had more girlfriends than he could count and that you once dated three women at the same time."
Will groaned. "Geez, he makes me sound like some sort of Casanova."
"Brad seemed quite amused by your prowess. Proud even."
"I admit I've sowed my share of wild oats, but the thing with the three girls is not something I'm particularly proud of."
That surprised her. She looked up into his face. "What do you mean?"
"I was young and stupid and a little too full of myself. It sounds immodest, but girls kind of threw themselves at me."
Sarah had no trouble picturing young women throwing themselves at Will. "So what happened?"
"I don't know," he said with a shrug, "Somehow I found myself going out with three girls at the same time, and somehow each of them thought we were exclusive."
"Why did they think they were each exclusive?"
The look Will gave Sarah was guilty and contrite. "I might have given them that impression."
"Why would you do that?"
"Sarah—"
"Don't tell me, let me guess. Because a girl who thinks she's in a serious relationship is more likely to sleep with her boyfriend."
"I said I wasn't proud of what I'd done."
"How long did you manage to juggle them?"
"A few weeks. I was at the movies with girlfriend number one when girlfriends number two and three saw us together. One and two were both spitting mad and dropped me like a rotten potato. But the third girl took it really hard. It turns out she was in love with me, or at least thought she was. I really hurt her. Since then it's been one girl at a time for me."
Though it wasn't quite the story Brad had told her, she believed Will. He'd done some stupid things, but he'd grown up. Perhaps Brad hadn't seen that.
"What about you?" he asked. "Didn't you ever do something stupid that you regretted later?"
Sarah's thoughts immediately flew back to her first year in university. She still felt embarrassed thinking about it, though time and distance had smoothed over the humiliation somewhat. "Oh yeah. I certainly did."
"What happened?"
"There was this sweet, kind of geeky guy who had a crush on me when I was a freshman. But I didn't really notice him because I was too busy making a complete idiot of myself over a good-looking football player. I've always felt bad about the way I treated him." She couldn't make herself tell him the rest of it.
"So maybe you can understand that even though I acted like a jerk when I was younger, I'm not that guy anymore. Or at least I hope not."

Blurb:

When she goes on the Caribbean cruise meant to be her honeymoon in order to lick her wounds, she discovers her ex-fiancé has sent his brother, Will Marshall, the former best man, on the cruise as well. Everyone on board thinks they're newlyweds, and Sarah is too embarrassed to set them straight. How is she supposed to share a tiny cabin with a man she barely knows? Very believable conversation. We've all done those things we regret.
I like the characters already. Her Best Man sounds like my kind of read. :)
Love the premise of this story. Sometimes, mistakes right themselves in ways we'd never expect.
Hi,
Good scene. This getting to know you scene has lots emotionalism that made me wonder how they will get close to each other.
Have a lovely day.
