#MFRWhooks Blog Hop - An Excerpt from HER BEST MAN - A Sour Cream Complexion

Happy Blog Hop Day! This month I'm featuring excerpts from my Left at the Altar romantic comedy series. Today here's an excerpt from HER BEST MAN. Through a series of unfortunate events, including Sarah getting dumped at the altar by Will's brother, Will and Sarah have just realized that they will be sharing a cabin on a cruise ship for the next week. The think they can avoid each other during that time, but Will is already starting to like his brother's ex-fiance:

Red roses and a pearl necklace with "Book Hooks" and "Marketing for Romance Writers" text on a dark background. Elegant and romantic mood.

Excerpt:

With any luck, Will could avoid his brother's ex-fiancé for the next week. He wondered at the 'ex' part. At this moment Brad was back in Ottawa trying to locate Sarah and make up with her. His brother wouldn't be thrilled to learn Will was sharing a cabin with her. All the more reason to keep his distance.

"I'm going to grab something to eat," he told her. He supposed he could hang around the bars and casinos all night. Will wondered how he'd keep up the night owl routine for a whole week. Already, he felt his energy failing. Maybe he'd jump ship at the first port of call.

Sarah picked up her purse. "I'll walk out with you." She gave him a shy smile. "I'm starved. This is the first time in days I've had any appetite. Maybe it's the sea air."

Will fought the urge to respond to his brother's fiancée. Sarah's pretty face was tinged with pink, and he wondered if it came from a blush or if she'd already caught too much sun. He felt an unexplainable protectiveness towards her.

"Don't forget to use your sunblock. You've got a complexion the color of sour cream."

Sarah slanted him a look. "For a writer you really have a lousy way with words."

Will grinned. Something about Sarah made him enjoy teasing her. Maybe it was the way she went all prim and stiff at everything he said. Her reactions made him want to loosen her up a little.

Blue book cover with a bride and groom, cruise ship, pyramid, and snowy bench. "Her Best Man" in yellow script; author Jana Richards.

Blurb:

Sarah Stevens experiences a bride's worst nightmare; being dumped at the altar. When she goes on the Caribbean cruise meant to be her honeymoon in order to lick her wounds, she discovers her ex-fiancé has sent his brother, Will Marshall, the former best man, on the cruise as well. Everyone on board thinks they're newlyweds, and Sarah is too embarrassed to set them straight. How is she supposed to share a tiny cabin with a man she barely knows? How is she supposed to pretend that she and Will are on their honeymoon? Even worse, how can she keep from falling in love with him? Sarah discovers the best man for her really is the best man.

I read this book a while back and loved it. Sarah and Will are a wonderful couple.

HI,

I wonder if this is going to destroy the trust the two brothers have in each other. I hope not.

They already sound perfect for each other. That build up that begins with snarky comments. Sour Cream! :)

Thanks for commenting, Linda. Years ago, someone told my daughter she had acomplexion the color of sour cream when we were on vacation in the Caribbean. Which was pretty correct, especially coming from Canada in the middle of winter! That quip has always stayed with me.

Unfortunate, but often accurate!
