Happy Wednesday! Today I've got an excerpt from I'LL BE SEEING YOU. Apprentice angel Gabriel and his client Frank return to 1944 in the hopes that Frank will get a second chance at love with Claire. He left her because he believed she cheated on him, but Gabriel believes there's more to the story.
The first time Frank went to war, he returned home without a scratch. But this time, Frank is badly injured in a training accident, trying to save his best friend Hal.
One of Gabriel's angel powers is that he feels everything his client feels, both emotionally and physically. He can also read his clients' thoughts. Gabriel and Frank communicate telepathically. Enjoy the excerpt!

Excerpt;
Gabriel fought to open his eyes and lift the darkness. Gradually, he became aware of his body. Everything hurt, from his ankle to the top of his head. He wiggled his fingers and toes to make sure everything still worked and was relieved when they did. He was essentially fine.
Of course, he was fine. He was already dead.
But Frank. What kind of shape was he in? Gabriel realized any pain he experienced was Frank’s. Empathy filled his heart for his friend.
Gabriel managed to open his eyes and saw rows and rows of beds. The smell of disinfectant hung in the air. He was in a hospital and judging by the uniforms the nurses were wearing, he was in an American army hospital. He sat in a chair next to one of the beds. Frank lay still and quiet in the bed, his head bandaged. Claire sat in a chair on the other side and held Frank’s hand.
“Can you hear me, Frank? Please tell me you can hear me.”
Gabriel heard the plea in Claire’s voice. Had she been at Frank’s bedside since they got there, wherever there was? There was no doubt she was in love with Frank. He had to be made aware she was there.
Frank. Gabriel was too weak to stand, or even lift his arms. You have to wake up. Claire is here and she loves you. You need to talk to her and reassure her.
Frank’s eyelids flickered as he struggled to consciousness. His mouth moved, but no sound emerged. He tried again. “Claire.”
His voice sounded as dry and cracked as his lips. Gabriel sensed him fight against the blackness that threatened to claim him once more. He blinked, once, twice, and finally opened his eyes.
Claire squeezed his hand between the two of hers. “I’m here, darling. I’m right here.”
“Claire. Sweetheart.” Frank tried to reach up to touch her face, but the effort caused both him and Gabriel excruciating pain. Gabriel’s gut twisted. Just how badly was Frank hurt?

Blurb, I'LL BE SEEING YOU:
Apprentice angel Gabriel Daniel’s first assignment in his quest to become a full-fledged angel is to give WW2 veteran, Frank Brennan, a second chance at love. With help from his mentor, senior angel Thomas, Gabriel takes Frank back to 1944 to Plymouth, England. There, Frank made his biggest mistake with love. He fell in love with Claire Cartwright, but when he found her kissing another man, he ended their relationship, despite Claire’s insistence that things weren’t as they appeared. This time around, Gabriel’s task is to convince Frank to trust in Claire’s love and fidelity, despite the evidence against her.
At the same time, Thomas takes Gabriel on a journey through his relationship with Sloane, the love of his mortal life. For the first time, Gabriel sees how his jealousy and distrust tainted their love.
Unless Gabriel persuades Frank to trust Claire, his goal of becoming a citizen of Heaven is doomed, along with his desire to watch over his mother and brother back on Earth. Frank has a complicated history that Gabriel must help him confront before either of them gets what they need.

Who would have guessed it would be so difficult being an angel? And yet you have captured the essence of "holiness", which is compassion.
What a touching scene!
What a wonderful story, Jana. Unusual. Touching. Memorable.
You outdid yourself with 'I'll Be Seeing You'.
The connection between Gabriel and Frank is so intense since he has to feel Frank's "excruciating pain" just to help him wake up. A really powerful scene and sacrifice.
Gabriel has a big job to do if he's going to help Frank and Claire.
