#MFRWhooks Blog Hop - An Excerpt from SEEING THINGS - A Vision of a Snake

For the month of October, I'm sharing snippets from my paranormal romantic suspense novel. Today in the excerpt from SEEING THINGS - A Vision of a Snake - Leah has another strong vision of Jeremy, the kidnapped boy. This time she sees a snake writhing over Jeremy, but she has no idea what it means. And even worse, David, the boy's uncle, doesn't believe in her psychic ability:

Red roses and white pearls on a rich background with elegant cursive text: "Book Hooks" and "Marketing for Romance Writers." Romantic mood.

Excerpt:

"What makes you think I'm divorced?" he challenged.

She'd known the moment he walked into Detective Hampton's office. "You're not wearing a ring." Leah sensed that family was vitally important to David. He would have tried to create one of his own. "Do you have any children?"

He glanced at his bare hands. "How is knowing my marital status going to help you find Jeremy?"

"Maybe it's not. Maybe I'm just nosy."

To Leah's surprise he grinned. "At least you're honest." He set a dinosaur back on the shelf. "I've been divorced for about three years, I don't have any children, and in answer to your next question, I'm not seeing anyone at the moment. Do you have any other highly personal questions you'd like to ask?"

Leah stifled a grin and reached once more for the Teddy bear sitting beside her on the bed. "No, that’s it. For now."

As she brushed her hand over Mr. Cuddles' soft fur, her fingers tingled. The edges of her vision suddenly turned dark until she could see only a pinprick of light. The familiar panic that accompanied a vision wrenched her stomach. And then, as if a switch had been snapped on, she saw Jeremy sitting cross-legged on a bed in a sparsely furnished room. A large snake slithered across the bed and over Jeremy's lap. The snake wound itself around his neck and through his hair before suddenly disappearing into thin air, and yet Jeremy failed to show any fear. He seemed calm, content even. The only negative emotion she could detect was loneliness.

The vision flickered out, leaving Leah gasping for breath. Frustration clawed at her stomach. What did it mean? Where was Jeremy?

She felt strong arms wrap around her. "Are you okay?"

Leah took a moment to gather her wits and catch her breath.

"Yes, I'm okay," she said shakily. "It's just... that was so strong."

David ran his hands over her arms and looked into her face as if checking for damage. "What was?"

"The vision. I saw Jeremy again. There was a snake."

He stared at her, the look in his eyes disbelieving.

Woman in a coat stands by a snowy cabin at night. Eyes and text about trusting visions appear in the purple sky. Mood is mysterious.

Blurb:

When psychic Leah McKenna “sees” the abduction of a small boy, she knows she must help find him, no matter how much she longs for a normal life without visions. And no matter the danger to herself. David Logan, the boy’s uncle, doesn’t believe in psychic phenomenon. He believes Leah knows who kidnapped his nephew. He plans to stick close to her to discover the boy’s whereabouts. As they search for Jeremy, they uncover truths about themselves, the past, and the way they feel about each other. Can Leah convince David her visions, and her love for him, are real? And can they find Jeremy before time runs out for all of them?

The more excerpts I read from this book, the more I would love to read the whole book. Leah is a fascinating character. That snake twisting around MY neck would result in me screaming my head off. LOL.

It's as if she sees the boy IRL then has a vision of menace.

Leah doesn't always know what her visions mean, or what they're trying to tell her. She tells David that her visions are often metaphors. Thanks for stopping by.

What Lisabet said! Anything with snakes fits that bill.
