Welcome to #MFRWhooks Blog Hop! Today I have an excerpt from THERE GOES THE GROOM - She's a Cute Drunk. Olivia has too much to drink at the bar with her friends. It's her birthday, but her 'safe' fiance Stuart has totally forgotten about it. Not a present, not a card, not a phone call. Her friend Dani calls her brother Tony to help get Liv home. Tony happens to be the man who left Olivia at the altar eight years previously. I hope you enjoy the excerpt!

Red roses and a pearl necklace form a romantic backdrop. White text reads "Book Hooks" and "Marketing for Romance Writers."

Excerpt:

He unlocked the door and deposited her on the sofa, after carefully untangling her arms from around his waist. “How about I make us some coffee?”

“How ‘bout we have some birthday cake? I thought you said we had birthday cake.” She pouted prettily.

Tony couldn’t help smiling. She was even cute when she was drunk. “Dani’s bringing it. She’ll be here soon.”

Liv kicked off her shoes and followed him into the kitchen, weaving a bit as she did so. She climbed awkwardly onto one of stools at the island. “Don’t tell anybody, but I think I drank too much.” She brought her finger to her lips and made a shh sound.

Tony grinned. “Don’t worry. It’ll be our secret.”

“That’s good. Stuart wouldn’t like that I got drunk. He’s pretty strait-laced, you know.”

The mention of Stuart’s name had his jaw clenching again. This time he couldn’t keep quiet. “Do you love him, Liv? Do you really want to marry him?”

She only smiled. “I want to get married.”

“How do you know he’s the right one for you? He didn’t even remember your birthday. What’s he going to forget next, your name?”

“That’s funny. Maybe he will forget my name.” Her laugh trembled. She slid sideways on her stool and nearly fell off before grabbing onto the counter and managing to right herself.

Her smile suddenly disappeared and she sat staring at him, looking completely vulnerable.

A bride and groom walk apart on a yellow background. Pink text says "There Goes the Groom." A black cat and decorative flowers are present.

Blurb:

Eight years ago, Tony bailed on Olivia at the altar. In the days leading up to the wedding, she was silent and distant, and though she claimed everything was fine, Tony concluded she no longer wanted to marry him. So, he gave her an easy way out and took the fall.

Now he’s back in town, and they’re forced to work together. Sparks fly, but Olivia’s not sure she can trust him. Besides, she’s engaged to someone else, and even if her heart only flutters for Tony, she’s not about to humiliate her nice, “safe” fiancé like she was humiliated.

Can Tony and Olivia work through the past, or will she walk down the aisle with her safe bet? This time, will Tony end up alone at the altar?
