Here's an excerpt from THERE GOES THE GROOM, book 2 in my Left at the Altar romantic comedy series. Eight years after Tony left Olivia at the altar, he's back in town and they have to work together on an important project for the next few weeks. But Tony discovers when Olivia gives him a ride home that it's going to be uncomfortable.

Excerpt:
“I was surprised when I found out you were working at the museum,” he said cautiously.
She glanced at him. “I thought Dani would have kept you informed.”
“No, not really. My sister and I have an unspoken agreement. I don’t ask about you and she doesn’t kill me.”
Tony hoped she’d smile at his small attempt at humor, but she remained solemn. “Dani and I don’t talk about you either.”
Liv and Daniella had been friends since high school. Dani had introduced him to Liv when she was an eighteen-year-old freshman in university and he was a part-time student and full-time tradesperson. He was glad they’d managed to maintain their friendship. But he still didn’t understand how she’d ended up in public relations. It seemed so far removed from the career in medicine she’d once dreamed of.
“What about medical school? Why didn’t you go?”
“I changed my mind.”
She didn’t elaborate, leaving him confused. It didn’t make sense. She’d been determined, to the point of obsession, with becoming a doctor like her father. It was all she talked about when he’d known her. What had happened to change her mind?
“Do you like it, I mean working at the museum in PR?”
“Yes, very much.” She spoke with a conviction that told Tony she was sincere. He still didn’t understand what had veered her off her original career path, but at least she seemed happy.
“That’s good, Liv. I mean Olivia.”
The rest of the trip passed in silence. Tony glanced at her a few times, struggling for something to say to break the tension that had settled over them, but her stiff posture and tense expression told him she wasn’t in the mood for chit-chat.
He leaned back against his seat and stared out the side window at the passing streets. He knew there was much more to her career change than she was telling him. Tony wondered if they’d ever again have the kind of relationship where she’d feel free to tell him her secrets.
He sighed. Those days were gone forever.

Blurb:
Eight years ago, Tony bailed on Olivia at the altar. In the days leading up to the wedding, she was silent and distant, and though she claimed everything was fine, Tony concluded she no longer wanted to marry him. So, he gave her an easy way out and took the fall.
Now he’s back in town, and they’re forced to work together. Sparks fly, but Olivia’s not sure she can trust him. Besides, she’s engaged to someone else, and even if her heart only flutters for Tony, she’s not about to humiliate her nice, “safe” fiancé like she was humiliated.
Can Tony and Olivia work through the past, or will she walk down the aisle with her safe bet? This time, will Tony end up alone at the altar?

Great tension. Chit-chat is the last thing Olivia wants.
Nicely done. Lots of tension. :)
Ouch! Unsure if Tony is pushing or Olivia is off-putting with that snippet but that was tense. But intriguing too. Second Chance romance is my favorite kind of trope.
I could feel that tension. Relatable! I've been caught in uncomfortable silences all too often.
