Happy Wednesday! I'm sharing an excerpt from HER BEST MAN, book 1 in the Left at the Altar romantic comedy series. In this scene, just as Sarah recovers from a bout of seasickness on the cruise boat, she realizes she's in love with Will, her ex-fiance's brother. But does Will's loyality to his brother mean there's no chance for him and Sarah?

Excerpt:
She swung her legs to the side of the bed and carefully got to her feet. After some initial dizziness, the sensation passed and she was able to walk to the bathroom. The movement completely drained her of energy, as if she'd run a marathon rather than walking only a few steps. Before she closed the bathroom door, she turned to look at Will. He was hunched over his laptop, his hands on the keys, though they were completely still. Sarah saw tension bunching the muscles in his broad shoulders, and she wondered at the reason.
"Will?" she said quietly. He turned in his chair to look at her, mild inquiry in his eyes.
She didn't know what she wanted to say exactly. She wanted to ask him if something was bothering him, but maybe she didn't really want to know.
"Thanks for looking after me today."
"You would have survived on your own, Sarah. You're a lot stronger than you think."
Their eyes met across the room. He smiled in the lopsided way she found so endearing and she smiled back at him. She wanted to stay in this room with him forever, watching him work, listening to him talk, being close to him. She wanted to be with Will forever. She was in love with him.
The thought rocked her, and she put a hand on the doorframe to steady herself, blinking back the tears that suddenly filled her eyes.
She was in love with him. She loved his crazy sense of humor, his compassion for others, and his loyalty to his brother. It was crazy to feel this way after such a short time, but she knew it was true. This was how it was supposed to feel when you were planning to spend the rest of your life with someone. The feelings weren't forced, or lukewarm or phony. They were strong and real and passionate. She loved Will.
"Sarah? Are you all right?" She saw the concern in his eyes and loved him all the more.
"I'm fine. I'll be better after I have a shower." She closed the door quickly, not wanting him to see her cry.

Blurb:
Sarah Stevens experiences a bride's worst nightmare; being dumped at the altar. When she goes on the Caribbean cruise meant to be her honeymoon in order to lick her wounds, she discovers her ex-fiancé has sent his brother, Will Marshall, the former best man, on the cruise as well. Everyone on board thinks they're newlyweds, and Sarah is too embarrassed to set them straight. How is she supposed to share a tiny cabin with a man she barely knows? How is she supposed to pretend that she and Will are on their honeymoon? Even worse, how can she keep from falling in love with him? Sarah discovers the best man for her really is the best man.

Realistic scene. I related to her right away.
I remember reading this scene. It's very emotional.
This really rings true, Jana. When you're in love, you know it.
